Where it All Began
Since high school, Vivian had always dreamed of becoming a lawyer. After earning her bachelor’s degree at Douglass College / Rutgers University, graduating in 1978, she began pursuing a career in the legal industry by entering paralegal school at Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey.
A year after graduating from college, Vivian Demas worked as a paralegal for Freeman and Bass in Newark, NJ for about 2 and half years. In March 1982 she began her employment with Gerald B. O’Connor, Esq. one of the best and most respected trial attorneys in the state of New Jersery. Working as his paralegal she started law school in September 1984 at Seton Hall Law School in their evening program. Her work at the firm of O’Connor & Rhatican PC as an associate and eventually as a partner established her as a respective attorney handling personal injury claims, and concentrating in the representation of patients injured as a result of medical negligence. The firm became known as O’Connor & Demas PC. In August 2005, Vivian opened her own office, The Law Office of Vivian Demas in Cranford, NJ. In August 2022, she moved her office to Summit NJ, where she continues to practice.

In March 1982 she began her employment with Gerald B. O’Connor, Esq. one of the best and most respected trial attorneys in the state of New Jersey. Vivian opened her own office, The Law Office of Vivian Demas in August of 2005 in Summit, NJ.
She decided to go to law school in the evenings at Seton Hall LS. For four years, she juggled school and work, which is a testament to her diligence, perseverance, and determination to fulfill her dreams of becoming a lawyer. After law school, she continued to work for O’Connor, who became her mentor. Vivian practiced law under his tutelage and eventually became a named partner. She was then admitted to practice in New Jersey in 1988 and the United States Supreme Court in 2003.

Vivian is a long-time member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Trial Attorneys of New Jersey (TANJ) and the New Jersey Association for Justice (formerly known as ATLA). She serves as a Master of the Richard J. Hughes American Inns of Court. In addition, Attorney Demas has served as a past member of the District X Ethics Committee and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). She became Secretary of the NJ Northern Chapter of ABOTA in December 2016 and Treasurer in the December of 2018.
Attorney Demas also served as a Trustee for the Hellenic American Bar Association. She was named one of the top 50 women attorneys by NJ Monthly Magazine beginning in 2009 and has been included on that list in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
